Epoxy coating Singapore

Epoxy coating Singapore on a factory floor

Flexible and durable epoxy coating

Epoxy paint Singapore is a collective name for all coatings based on Epoxy resin. Epoxy is one of the most used resins in two component paints, next to Polyurethane. When mixing the Epoxy resin with a curing agent it starts a chemical reaction. This chemical reaction is also called “crosslinking”. When the crosslinking is completed, it results in a strong & durable layer.

The most common use for epoxy paint is in flooring systems. Next to floors, epoxy paint is also good for many other applications like:

  • Swimming pools
  • Boating decks
  • Watertanks
  • Metal structures
  • Chemical tanks
  • Pipelines
  • Tiles

3 pros and cons of epoxy based paints

Epoxy Paint Singapore consists of a curing agent (hardner) and an Epoxy resin, also known as polyepoxide. Reaction of polyepoxides with themselves or with a hardener forms a thermosetting polymer, with high mechanical properties, temperature and chemical resistance.

The pros

Compared to other types of two component paints, the per square foot cost of epoxy paints are tough to beat. Since it can be installed directly over concrete and tiles, the installation costs are quite a bit lower than the others. Pricing remains one of the biggest and the most immediate advantages you’ll find with epoxy paint. Other pros are:

  1. A durable and tough finish: it can withstand heavy load of machinery and cars
  2. Epoxy resins are corrosion resistant: thus they are ideal for protecting metals from erosion.
  3. The ability to withstand high temperatures: a normal epoxy paint can withstand high temperatures up to 300 degrees. However, epoxy in combination with acrylic and silicone additives can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees!

The cons

Getting the surface ready for applying epoxy paint can be a tedious job which requires a lot of effort.  The floor or wall for example has to be clean and free of any grease, oil, or solvents before the epoxy paint is applied. Cracks and dents will need to be filled as well. All this preparation work required can be considered a drawback. Other cons are:

  1. The end result is very solid: for living room floors the softer Polyurethane resin is the better choice
  2. Cracks can develop and chipping is a very common issue: it is therefor not ideal for new floors/walls
  3. It takes several days to dry properly: Additionally, the first coat of epoxy must dry completely before adding the next coat

There are several pros and cons to using epoxy paint. It’s highly recommended that you consult a professional contractor to conduct an analysis of your substrate before making any decision. We can help you with this. Please contact us for more information.

Epoxy paint for tiles; 5 steps for applying it yourself

Ceramic tiles in wet areas can be coated with Epoxy paint to protect the tiles from water, wear and also tear. Furthermore it can also freshen up the look of tiles. As with most painting jobs, preparation is the key to success. Here’s how to best go about painting tile with epoxy:

Mixing the Epoxy resin with a hardener is one important step of applying epoxy paint

1: Clean the tile by removing dirt, mildew and soap and then allow the surface to dry
2: Lightly sand the tile to take the gloss off the glazed surface
3: Remove any dust with a damp cloth
4: Mix the two components and apply one coat of epoxy paint, follow the directions from the manufacturer carefully, and allow the recommended drying time before applying the second coat
5: Apply the second and last coat of epoxy paint, and let it dry

Self leveling Epoxy paint for floors

Self leveling epoxy paint is mostly used for floors. It namely provides an excellent overlay for uneven floors, for it can repair run-down concrete and furthermore it can be used as a smooth primer for decorative treatments. After a treatment with self leveling paint a floor is firstly easy to clean and secondly repels oil & dirt and lastly withstands  harsh chemicals. Therefore, the product is ideal for industrial purposes or garage owners who use the space for work or hobby purposes.

So how does the leveling work? All you have to do is mix the two compounds according to the instructions on the packaging and then pour it over the substrate. The Epoxy resin will flow with gravity to fill in the high and low levels of the floor to create an even overlay.

Protect structures from corrosion with Epoxy paint for steel

Corrosion, most often rust, is the worst enemy of metal structures and surfaces due to the fact that the oxidation weakens the structure and its properties, as well as negatively affects the aesthetics. The durability of steel and other metal structures is essential, especially when the structure is in a critical position; for example supporting a building or other construction. Fortunately, Epoxy paint can improve the durability and protect any substrate from rust.

Epoxy paint that needs to protect against corrosion usually requires two coats of primer, before applying the coating itself. The total DFT (Dry Film Thickness) being 100 to 125 microns for optimum result.

Next to corrosion inhibition, most epoxy paints have the following properties (which can further be modified) when applied to steel:

  • Acid- and chemical resistance
  • Protection from weathering
  • Resistance to dirt and other contamination
  • Abrasion resistance

Keep in mind though: Epoxy paints are not resistant to UV radiation. They tend to chalk in one or two years. Due to the poor UV resistance, Epoxy Paint Singapore is most suitable for indoor use or the inside of pipes, chemical tanks and fertilizer plants.

I’m in the process of building a pool, one of a series of pools using shipping containers welded together.
What product do you sell to seal the bottom( now cemented) and the insides of the pool(steel with original paintwork)?
I’m also interested to know if you ship to Indonesia or would I need to organise to pick up product by myself?
